Summary:

The successful candidates will work as either an EMT partner or Paramedic lead, depending on qualifications.  EMTs  perform the main duties of ambulance driver to and from emergency and non-emergency scenes and administer basic life support and care under the direction of the District Medical Director and Paramedic partner consistent with state and local operating protocols. The incumbent Paramedic is the lead on EMS calls, directing EMT partners and administering basic and advanced life support to sick and injured persons in the out-of-hospital setting under the direction of the District Medical Director utilizing District protocols.

EMT ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Safely drive ambulances, assist with extricating trapped victims when required, and transport sick and injured persons to treatment centers.
• Render basic life support procedures to patients in a variety of settings consistent with state and local operating protocols.
• Administer initial treatment at an emergency scene and takes and record patient vital signs.
• Provide medical examination and screening of patient’s conditions, reaction to drugs, treatments and significant incidents; observe and report the same to Physician and other medical personnel via radio or telephone as well as documenting reports.
• Attend staff business meetings and trainings as directed.
• Lift, move and place patients on stretcher, restrains patients appropriately, and lift and move loaded stretchers safely to and from an ambulance.
• Check medical/operating supplies and vehicle to ensure preparedness.
• May start IVs and initiate IV fluids with current IV Therapy Authorization.
• Direct and coordinate patient care between inter-agency (ie. Fire and police) personnel and other District employees.
• Perform all duties in a safe, courteous, confidential and professional manner, always taking into account the well-being of the patient.
• Maintain response readiness consistent with the District’s response criteria.
• Use safety and PPE equipment as required by law and District policies.
• Maintain clean vehicles and quarters pursuant to ECPS policies. Complete daily cleaning duties.
• Protect the privacy of patients at all times and in accordance with ECPS HIPAA policies.
• Mentor, train, and encourage fellow staff as needed, to help them attain their full potential.
• Maintain vehicles and quarters pursuant to ECPS policies.
• Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

• Current Colorado EMT certification and current National Registry -- must be state certified before job starts and must have National Registry within reasonable timeframe
• Current CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation)
• Valid State of Colorado motor vehicle operating license, with continued safe driving history
• Strong language skills: reading and writing, ability to communicate and interact with a variety of people and under stressful conditions.
• Proficient computer skills
• Strong mathematical skills
• Strong reasoning ability, problem solving skills, decision making skills, and ability to act and maintain composure in highly emotional, stressful, and potentially hazardous situations.
• Bi-lingual (verbal and written) preferred

PARAMEDIC ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Assess the nature and extent of illness or injury to establish and prioritize medical procedures to be followed or need for additional assistance.
• Renders basic life support procedures or initial treatment to patients in a variety of settings which may include:
  • Attempt to restore and stabilize heart rhythm on pulseless, apneic patient
  • Perform basic and advanced airway management, including RSI
  • Administer injections of medications or immunizations
  • Initiate IV fluids
  • Monitor cardiac patients
• Provide medical examination and screening of patient’s conditions, reaction to drugs, treatments and significant incidents; observe and report the same to Physician and other medical personnel via radio or telephone as well as documenting reports.
• Act as patient advocate in the out-of-hospital setting.
• Complete all reports, including patient care records, legibly, accurately and by the end of each shift or end of every 12-hour work period.
• Drive ambulances to and from emergency and non-emergency scenes, assisting with extricating trapped victims as needed, and transporting sick and injured persons to treatment centers.
• Attend staff business meetings and trainings as directed.
• Check medical/operating supplies and vehicles to ensure preparedness.
• Direct and coordinate patient care between inter-agency (ie. fire and police) personnel and other District employees.
• Perform all duties in a safe, courteous, confidential and professional manner, always taking into account the well-being of the patient.
• Mentor, train and encourage fellow staff as needed to help them attain their full potential.
• Maintains vehicles and quarters pursuant to ECPS policies.
• May supervise one or more employees.
• Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

• Current Paramedic Certificate for the State of Colorado and current National Registry -- must be state certified before job starts and must have National Registry within reasonable timeframe
• Minimum of three years of experience in a 911 system (FP-C and Critical Care experience preferred)
• Current certification in CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation) and ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
• Valid State of Colorado motor vehicle operating license, with continued safe driving history

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:

• 48/96 EMT compensation: $16.25-$21.74/hour (expected annualized salary $53,300-$71,295
• 48/96 Paramedic compensation: $22.20-$31.32/hour (expected annualized salary $72,816- $102,730)

Time Off

• Public health emergency order time off as required
• Paid sick and safe leave accrues at 4.30 hours per pay period, for an annualized total of 80 hours
• Vacation accrues at 6.5 hours per pay period, for an annualized total of 169 hours. Accrual rate will increase at 5 years tenure
